About ME

This is my life…this is my world the way “I” see it. It may not be nice and most times it is not pretty.  However, it is what it is.

I am an African American Muslim living in the Gulf with 3 kids. My kids are the best thing that ever happened to  me besides Islam.  I work in education. Most times I enjoy my job and life. The thing is every now and then I feel like WTH am I doing. I am trying to LOVE my life. Like I said most times I like it but LOVE is such a strong word. Can I ever get there…Will I have happiness for more than a few days?

This is what I am looking for….to live my life…..and love it……..accept it…..the good the bad……and all the ugly.

You heard of love the skin you in…..Well I wanna LOVE the Life Im in…..

  4. Oh, I will be back! I look forward to getting to know you better in the coming days. :-) What part of the US are you from? I live in North Carolina. I’ll try to read more in your blog soon. Beware .. I like to comment. ;-)

  5. Assalamu alaikum Sister, you are going to Malaysia for 3 weeks, I’m so excited for you. If you are staying in KL, there are lots of things to see and do. But try, get out of the city and go to other parts of Malaysia. The beauty of the country is in the countryside. When I’m there, I can’t stop looking at how green everything is masha’allah.

    Some places you can visit:

    - Petronas Towers & KLCC – I don’t think its the tallest building in the world anymore, but they are still the tallest twin towers…..and KLCC, the mall which is right under it, is nice too.

    -Islamic Arts Museum
-Shopping @ Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman…this street has old buildings from the World War, shopping for textiles, hijabs etc, and to me really captures the essence of Malaysia

-Masjid Jamek – Malaysia’s version of Little India

-International Islamic University Malaysia – my old uni, the campus is very beautiful….and if you are in the area on jummah, the khutbahs are in English…most of the time anyway

-Malacca – historical state in Malaysia, lots of tourist attractions…there is a place called mini Malaysia which is well worth the visit.

-Cameron Highlands (Pahang) hilly area with lots of tea plantations. Also, some of Malaysia’s aboriginal peoples called Orang Asli lives in the jungles around it.

-islands…Pangkor Island, Redang & Tioman. 3 different islands, all gorgeous. I personally like Pangkor because the ocean is green there, and coming from the Bahamas, its something that I had never seen before

I think I might take up all your space here with these recommendations, I could go on and on for a long time :) . I just put a few that came to my mind. Insha’allah if you need more info, you can email me anytime.

  6. May Allah give you and your family the bliss of both this world and hereafter.

  7. I am curious to know how your husband passed away. i was like wow you were probably so happy with him and then he passed away. huge bummer. not easy to get over.

  8. Ya Salaam. me too, me too.

  9. I’ve just read your blog about the Arab world’s dirty secret i.e. racism.

I was extremely happy to see someone highlighting this, it makes a change from the general demonization of Islam we see in the western media but the equally superficial “Oh Islam is soooo wonderful” bliss we see from other Muslims including many converts, ignorant or disinterested in many of the harsh unIslamic practises in the Muslim world.

Islam is indeed wonderful, but Muslims are not.

    Great blog, please continue.

  10. Assalaamu alaikum sis,

I just read your blog for the first time. It seems like you are going through alot of the same things that we all experience when adjusting our idea of the ummah to its behavioral reality. Don’t worry. Hang in there and stay strong. Alhamdulilah, you always have ALLAH to trust in. Anyway, I’m not sure where you are in the Gulf. But I reside in Doha (by way of Washington DC). If you are in this little city, let me know and we can have tea sometime. Also, there is an independent, interactive ladies halaqa for expats that meets weekly that has just started alhamdulilah. let me know if you’d like details. Much love and Duahs, G.
